It's day 2 of the Hookers and Hangers Blogfest hosted by FFF. Here are my hangers... :) And if you're here for the buccaneer blogfest, please scroll down. I double booked myself... opps.
This is from the same MS as my hookers: OCEAN KILLS
Hanger One: “No problem. I love sushi. I'll take you to Yachiyo.”
Hanger Two: Slowly, my surroundings condensed from dream to reality, followed quickly by sound of car horns, voices, and the smell of mini doughnuts. I was in England.
Hanger Three: Yes. I liked the sound of that. I loved working for Maurice. It was a tax, a payment, to replace my darkness with goodness. “Tomorrow then.”
Hanger Four: ...but it would be enough to survive until I rescued Suri. After that I could perhaps get a normal job. I snorted. Me? A normal job? Yeah right.
Hanger Five: "There will not be pleasure for you.” He flinched. “I will see you in" – he checked his watch – "five hours.”
My countdown had begun.
Hanger Six: As the police station was replaced with smoke and speed, I latched onto a pair of seagreen eyes and a look of admiration. Callan.
Hanger Seven: Alone, for now. And free from preforming sex tricks for another twenty-four hours.
Hanger Eight: But I couldn't answer. Tears chocked me. Guilt pressed the air from my lungs. The pain stole my sanity, and the agony of teleporting flickered my consciousness to nothingness.
Hanger Nine: Yes. Food would be required before I ported. I gave him indulgent smile. “Can you fix me a bacon buttie?”
Hanger Ten: It wasn't until I was on the bus, hurtling down the hill toward Bondi Beach, that I realised I never told her my name.
There we go... thoughts?
And now onto Buccaneer... this week we have to interview our MC. And I'm going to interview Ocean. So if you're interested from the Hangers... here is the lady herself:
Me: Ocean? You're still keen to do this right? *Ocean stares off in the distance, with a frown on her forehead*
Ocean: Yes, sorry. It's just... I can't be too long. I still need to rescue those twins. That bastard might have sold them by now, and I'll never find them. *Torment dances in her eyes.*
Me: Okay, we'll do this fast. Um, what's your favourite food?
Ocean: Sushi. That's where Callan took me when he arrested me. He likes Sushi too.
Me: So you guys are an item now?
Ocean: No. I teleported when we were... *clears throat* anyway, I haven't seen him since. And I have no intention of it. He wants to 'fix' me. Not love me because I survived. He sees a broken child, not a hard, capable woman. I don't need his attempts at 'repairing' me.
Me: Why do you insist on hunting down murderers, rapists and delivering vigilante justice?
Ocean: *fire burns in her ebony eyes* You wouldn't have to ask that if you knew what I lived through.
Me: Will you share?
Ocean: No. That file is sealed, and will remain so.
Me: Okay... so how can you teleport?
Ocean: You aren't going to let it go are you? Fine. *She wraps arms around herself tightly* I was reborn when I was eight into a bloodbath of agony and loss. My parents, my brother, my dog. Only I survived the chainsaw-wielding bastards. Only I survived. But something changed inside me. Something split in my molecules and now I can 'port wherever I want. But it hurts... god, does it hurt.
Me: Why do it then? What's wrong with a plane?
Ocean: *glaring* I save victims from monsters. My porting abilities are a curse, but they are also a gift to save others from what happened to me. *she stands* Look. I really have to go.
Me: No, one more -
A gasp and a shudder of agony, Ocean disappears.
Well, I guess... that's it. She's upped and left. Hope that sort of gives you a hint of what Ocean Breeze is like. She really does have demons, but she's coping... just.
Thanks guys :)
Fab hangers! Number five really grabbed me!
ReplyDeleteGreat hangers! If I had to choose, I'd pick #4. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent hangers, I especially liked: Alone, for now. And free from preforming sex tricks for another twenty-four hours. - that really grabbed my attention, and would have me reading for more info.
ReplyDeleteLoved the interview with Ocean Breeze, it certainly sounds like she had a traumatic past, but you've got to admire her using her 'porting abilities for good.
Loved the Hangers... really pulled me in.
ReplyDeleteThe interview was pretty awesome!
What the heck is a bacon buttie?
ReplyDeleteGreat interview too. A hooker/vigilante. Very interesting. Great title too!

"Hanger Ten: It wasn't until I was on the bus, hurtling down the hill toward Bondi Beach, that I realised I never told her my name."

ReplyDelete#7 was my favourite over all ;)
Love how she disappeared at the end:-) Ocean sounds way cool! Hope she has a happily ever after at the end of her sad story.
ReplyDeleteGreat conversation between you and your MC. She is so real to you, I can tell, because you make her feel real to the reader. Very authentic voice and a cool premise. You'll go far with this novel. I'm feeling the vibe :)
ReplyDeleteShe's gonna be so much fun to read! Yay!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite hanger is #7. I love that your shero can teleport.
ReplyDeleteI was intrigued by your hangers, then the interview cemented things for me. Great set up! It sounds like a fast-moving book. I particularly liked #3, #7 and #9. :)
ReplyDeleteHangers! I loved them - especially 5, 7, and 10!
ReplyDeleteDoes Ocean also just disappear? Cool interview!
ReplyDeleteOops! Should say "Always just disappear?"
DeleteI LOVE hanger number 2. I totally get that, and you set up some great imagery in a really short time. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAnd for the Hookers and Hangers, I like #10:)
ReplyDelete#7 and #9 are my faves - the first is eyebrow-raising, and the second is just cute (the dialogue part). Yeah, I tend to only judge on the very last sentence :D
