I've been so excited for this.
This blogfest is hosted by Curiosity Quills and it's all about getting to know your fellow bloggers and supporting the writerly network.
Today is: Get to know me day.
So let's get cracking :)
So let's get cracking :)
If you gave me a laptop with an eternal battery life, an ebook reader (with eternal battery life) and every single book known to man, I would be in heaven. I live to write and read. I can't understand how people survive without words in their lives and get itchy when I can't dream or compose. :)
The sort of things I write are a mix-mash of genres and themes. My pre-published manuscript which is represented by Curiosity Quills is called SAMSARA and turns Hindu Gods and Goddesses into flesh and blood characters who are as flawed as any other and puts a twist on the regular eternal love, amnesia story.
I have a few WIP's in progress. Currently I'm writing three.
1. Samsara 2 - still working on title
2. A race of people who live in a forest and behave oddly
3. A girl called Ocean who lives to kill. (Sounds morbid, but its not! lol)
My journey as a writer began over three years ago where my passion for books spilled into writing my own. My first few drafts were cringe worthy, I can't believe friends were nice enough to say they liked it. (Little Fibbers) SAMSARA which is told from Loka (the MC's) POV hit me around the head one day and never let go. I'm a relatively fast writer. I typed up the first draft, complete with passive writing, purple prose and mistakes in seven weeks. Then I took a few months off before doing a full rewrite from YA to NA (love a challenge!) I was lucky enough to bag me a publisher :)
When I'm not writing I'm lounging out with a book. And if my eyes have seen too many words for the day, I'll be planning our next travel destination. Hubby and I are nomads and LOVE to travel. I live in New Zealand and no, I don't have a pet sheep, and would love the sun to warm up this part of the world just a little bit more.

Nice to know a little more about you Jade. I've followed your blog for a while, but now I feel like I'm learning more about you. SAMSARA sounds like a fantastic story, and I can't wait to hear all about it, as the fest progresses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Clare :) I'm so happy to have another English woman following me! :) Yay for UK writers
DeleteYay. English women unite! :D

ReplyDeleteHey Leigh :) I wish someone would come out with a laptop and ebook reader that worked off solar so I would never care about a charger!! :)
DeleteI also write novels concurrently! I have two WIPs right now. Following you. :)

Great way to confuse ourselves hey? When it isn't hard enough to write one MS - let's try a couple! lol
DeleteMmm, I think I could content myself with a bottomless kindle with infinate battery life, also. So much to read!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading more from you curing this here blogfest.
You too! So excited about all the cool people participating :) Awesome bunch of pirates

ReplyDeleteHey Gwen :) Nice to hear from you :) I'd travel every day of the year if I could. Kinda need a lot of money though! lol
DeleteCompletely agree. Eternal battery life=heaven. Nice to read more about you, Jade! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I've popped by your blog. Nice to get to know you too!!
DeleteWhat no pet sheep? Well, I suppose they don't fit in the city quite the same.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had a pet lamb. He thought he was a dog. ^_^ Fully-grown, he's down the road living on a vegetarian's farm.
Aw, sweet :)
DeleteI have a house-bunny who thinks she's a human, but no sheep! :)
Nice to meet you, Samsara sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I hope a lot of people think Samsara is interesting enough to read. I'm in love with the main lead - Shankara. Is it bad to admit that? lol
DeleteOoh, I remember reading about Samsara a few days ago and it sounded really intriguing. And now I want to know about the people behaving oddly in the forest!
ReplyDeleteLovely to meet you, fellow dreamer and traveler. :)
Hey Colleen :) Thanks :)
DeleteYes Meranti is a member of the Zoni people, who live in the Amazon, and she is fast becoming a rebel child :)
Samsara sounds really cool. I love Siddhartha and I recently read another book where Ganesh comes to life for a bit and it was really cute. The title was Maya and ... it escapes me at the moment. Anyway, I will have to keep my eyes out for Samsara. Glad to be sailing the blogging seas with ya!
ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting about those titles. I'll have to read Siddhartha. And I love the one where Ganesha comes to life. Maya (the illusion of life) features in my novel too :) Love everything to do with this mythology. So interesting
DeleteEternal battery life... ah! Congrats on the novel!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! :) The longest battery I have found was 14 hours for a laptop. Boo.
DeleteThanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for some ninja writers to interview for my Ninja spotlight series. If you're interested, go to http://kelworthfiles.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/im-looking-for-a-few-good-ninjas/ to find out more!
Hi :) I'll check out the ninja thing. Thanks ;)
DeleteSo exciting with the book (: It sounds really interesting! Glad to see you're a ninja too! Nice to meet you through this blogfest (:
ReplyDeleteYou too :) And thanks for liking my book :)
DeleteSamsara sounds really interesting, since I love Hinduism and Ancient Indian mythohistory. It's a shame more Westerners aren't as familiar with Indian mythology as they are with Greek and Roman.
ReplyDeleteThe name Ocean is kind of cool.
I totally agree! There are so many books on greek mythology and not enough on Hindu. And it's fascinating! :)
DeleteMy new MC's full name is Ocean Breeze, she was named after toilet airfreshner :) lol
Ah ha! Hinduism. Nice touch. If you need any inside scoops from India give me a shout. I'm not much religious but I am sure I can swing by the nearest temple and get you some 'God-Gossip'. Oh following btw!
ReplyDelete"and no I don't have a sheep" ... this reminds me when people ask if I own a horse because I live in Texas. :)
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to your soon-to-be published novel. It sounds very interesting and must be if CQ is publishing! I am not sure how people survive without words in their lives either. Glad you are blogging with us and I look forward to getting to know my new CQ sister better!
I've known a lot of people to try and age-down to YA, but I didn't know you aged up to NA. That's cool! What made you decide to do that?
ReplyDeleteI so love that in this blogfest I learn new things all the time. NA is one of those new terms for me. I really love the genre :)
ReplyDeleteSo awesome you have a book coming out soon. Loads of success!
Well I know Samsara 2 will be good, but those others sound intriguing too. Didn't realize Breeze was into killing, just figured it was a one time thing! Good luck with all the writings.
ReplyDeleteGreat to get to know more about you, Jade. Hearing your latest novel, I think you would love LORD OF LIGHT by Roger Zelazny about the crew of a colonizing expedition, taking advantage of clone bodies and high-tech to turn themselves into the Hindu gods and the passengers into worshippers. Strange but fun stuff. Thanks for visiting, Roland
ReplyDeleteHere I am, the geezer among the blog hoppers, and directing you to this post for perspective: http://randyattwood.blogspot.com/2011/08/reflections-from-aging-writer.html
